Kalighat Police Station of North and Middle Andaman among top ten Best police stations

The Kalighat Police Station of North and Middle Andaman has been ranked among top ten police stations in India. The Kalighat Police Station got the 6th place for its overall performance. These ten Police Stations were ranked out of the total of 16,671 police stations across the country.

The Police Stations of Andaman and Nicobar continue to perform distinguishably well for the third time in a row. Campbell Bay PS in Nicobar ranked 2nd in 2018 while Aberdeen PS situated in Port Blair was ranked the best police station in India last year.

The DPG, A&N, Deepndra Pathak,  said that it is a moment of pride for the whole Police Department and the Administration. He assured that police will continue to work with full commitment and professionalism in the service of people. He said, they will further improve the public delivery system and security paradigm of the islands. He thanked all the islanders for their valuable co-operation and support to contain the COVID-19 virus. He was attending DGPs/IGPs conference in Chennai.

The Kalighat Police Station lies under Sub Division Diglipur. Being one of the remotest Police Stations in India, it faces unique challenges. It covers the area under five remotely located Gram Panchayats and 21 villages. NHPC Dam on Kalpong river falls under its jurisdiction besides Ram Nagar Sea beach and famous Swiftlet Bird Nesting Caves. It was an outpost in Diglipur Police Station in 1965 which was converted into a Police Station in 1992.

Various proactive actions and special community oriented policing efforts coupled with welfare measures for the staff by the Police Department in a planned manner has led to this award of being adjudged as the best Police Station in India.
